People Pleasing

I think this is one of the main habit's that Christians have, People Pleasing.  We think because we are Christians that we have to try and please eerybody.  We believe that if we do not say yes to everything that people will think that we are not true christians or that we are fake.  The truth of the matter is, is that we don't not have to please everyone.  Honestly we can't please eveyone and no matter what we do people will still have something to say about something.  Within my family as a whole I can say numerous of times I have pleased those family members and when a time came where I could not, they acted as if I have never done them a  favor and got upset and angry with me.  As my relationship grew with God I began to notice that people pleasing is not something God wants us to do.  It can turn into Compromising your relationship with God.  Look at Galatians 1:10.  For  do I now, persuade men or God?  Or do I seek to please men?  For if I still pleased men, I would not be a bondservant of Christ.

Paul Continually sought to please God.  He did not care about what other  thought or trying to make them feel God by sugar coating the word of God for people.  He wanted to please God and not men.  He was honest with the people and told them what he saw them doing.  Trying to pervert the word of God, some turning away from God when they were not getting what they wanted.  He did not try and please them by making them feel good when it was a time to hold them accountable.  I know at times it can be extremely hard to tell someone you care about no or tell them the truth but we have to make sure we are pleasing God in these times.  What are some things that you do to please people that is something you know God is not neccessarily happy with?  What can you do to stop your people pleasing habits?

It was so hard for me to stop being a people pleaser.  The way I grew up having to take care of my brothers and be a mom figure for them, as they grew up and became teenagers I still felt that I had to please them.  For long time I fought with myself on should I not do this or that.  For a long time I would do things to please family member simply because I know they wanted me to do it and would be mad if I didn't.  I am so glad that I finally came to my senses and started to seek God about what I should do and how I can serve people being a Christian and still not be out of alignment with God.  We have to please people by making sure they are saved serving them with the things of God.  1Corinthians 10:31-33  Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.  Give no offense, either to the Jews or to the Greeks or to the church or God, just as I also please all men, in all things, not seeking my own profit, but the profit of many, that they may be saved.  Why is it that we should seek to please God?  he holds our future, he has given us eternal life, he has the power to heal all our sickness and disease, he gives us peace, joy, love, happiness, the way to a successful life.  People can't give us those things.  If they could then we would not need God.   Take a look at Phillippians 3:14  I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.   Paul had this goal in mind with everything that he did.  He left his past behind him and moved forward seeking God, pleasing God because he knew there was a prize for him at the end of his race.  We also have to look at it this way.  I lik

Your Alabaster Box

And when Jesus was in Bethany at the house of Simon the leper, 7 a woman came to Him having an alabaster flask of very costly fragrant oil, and she poured it on His head as He sat at the table. 8 But when His disciples saw it, they were indignant, saying, “Why this waste? 9 For this fragrant oil might have been sold for much and given to the poor.”
10 But when Jesus was aware of it, He said to them, “Why do you trouble the woman? For she has done a good work for Me.

Matthew 26:1-10

I love this story and I love the song that was made by a famous christian singer.  When I read the scriptures I love how she loved and honored the Messiah!  When you dig deep into this you will see that in this box, belonged very expensive perfume.  You also find that this was her lifeline.  This was her life's savings so to speak.  She had something valuable in the box and the beauty of this story is that she gave all she had all her savings to Jesus.  Without hesitation she decided that she wanted to give her all to Jesus The Christ.  She knew the price, she knew what she was loosing out on, but he meant more to her than the oil in her alabaster box.

My questions to you is, do you know what is in your alabaster box?  And is it keeping you from God?  Do those items mean more than God?  Do you feel that you can give those things up for him? This woman was giving her all to Jesus.  She knew that what she had in that flask could not do what Jesus could do for her.  That expensive perfume could not make her as rich as he could.  I could image what Jesus was  feeling when he saw that this woman could care for him this much.

Ladies I encourage you to love God the way we love our alabaster box.  The alabaster box for us can mean all sorts of things.  The things that we do not want to give up because we want them for keeps or because they are too valuable to just give away and not get anything in return.  God is willing to give his son to us forever and his promise of eternal life if we will give up the things in  our alabaster box.

This woman Mary broke this box open.  She knew that she was not going to try and go back once she gave it to him.  We have to break those things that keep us from God.  Don't just bring them to the table but totally destroy them.

Jesus said this act that she did was beautiful, because someone gave something so dear to them up for his love.  See this woman was smart.  She invested her life savings into the one who can give increase.  Increase on what she already had, increase on her knowledge of him, increase on dealing with whatever she may have been dealing with.  Don't spend your days pouring your life without measure into a little treasure box that you thought you have found.  What you will find in giving those items up is Jesus, the way, the truth and the life.

God Bless.

Friday Night Cup of Tea

If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there.

Psalm 139:8

It is always good to know that no matter where you are or where you go your Heavenly Father is right there with you.  I wanted to give a scripture that can let you know of his love and his presence in your life.  He is never too far from reach and he is always willing and ready to comfort you, speak to you, love you, and give you the strength you need.  His grace and mercy renew for us daily and we can assure that he is right where we are at all times.

Have a great Friday night.

Monday Devotional

For where your treasure is there your heart will be also.
Matthew 6:21 NKJV

Sometimes we do not sit and think of this as true, but where treasure is that is where your heart is.  Whatever you think about the most that is where your heart is.  Where ever you spend the most time that is where you’d rather be than anywhere else in the world.

What are treasures?  Treasures are the things that you hold dear to your heart.  They are the things that drive and move you, your mind, and your emotions.  Some of our treasures are our children, some husbands, for some food, for some Material things, Money etc.  But in the previous verses Jesus spoke and told them not to store up treasures for yourselves on earth.  Where moth and rust destroy and the thieves break in and steal.  But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven.
What are so bad about treasures on earth?
These things are the things that have been found to keep up us from God.  Keep us from fully being able to live for him, to serve him the way we should.  Sometimes the treasures are nice, they are fun and they give temporary happiness and results but as the bible teaches that those things get rust, they are not dependable. They can be stolen from us.  I don’t know about you but I do not want to store up things here that I can’t keep.  I don’t want to make something or in some cases someone my treasure where I can be totally in love with it but I can’t keep it for myself.

What treasures should we store up?
The treasures we should store up are love, peace, joy, happiness, hope, kindness.  All these things that I listed are things that come from heaven and that no one can take away from you unless you give it up.  Sometimes we give them up and take the earthly treasures instead.  God is from everlasting to everlasting. So take and store up treasures in heaven.  Let your heart be with God and all his goodness.  The scripture for today is helping us to be mindful and to see exactly where our treasures are.   Are they in the things of God?
