How much does appearance matter?
1 Samuel 16:7 The lord doesn't see things the way you see them. People judge by outward appearance, but the lord looks at the heart.
Proverbs 31:30 Charm is deceptive, and beauty does not last; but a woman who fears the Lord will be greatly praised.
Romans 8:10 Christ lives within you.
Ephesians 5:8-9 Once you were full of darkness, but now you have light from the Lord...This light within you produces only what is good and right and true.
1 peter 3:3-4 Don't be concerned about the outward beauty of fancy hhairstyles, expensive jewelry, or beautiful clothes. you should clothe yourselves instead with the beauty that comes from within, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is so precious to God.
These scripture give what the bible has to say about appearance. appearance does matter however we have to make sure our focus is on the right things. Our bodies are in a constant process of aging, and decay. So if we put to much into our outward appearance then we will never be fully satasifed. Who we really are are our soul our character, our inner being. That is what is ageless and that is what God loves and focus on. Our spiritual apperarance is what is important. What an impact you can have on others when they miss what is on the inside becaue they are so focused on what is on the inside. Don't get me wrong there is nothing wrong with paying attention to your outward appearance. God want's us to look nice, feel nice and be presentable. We just have to know that the outward is constantly changing!
When we are desiring to have someone in our life for a relationship and for marriage, we have these things that we say we would like to have. I want him to be tall, have this sort of build, this job, I want his teeth with no spaces in them, I don't want him to have a huge head, or if he is parrot toed I will pass. All these things may be important and some of them are not bad preferences but we have see beyond appearance especially of we are women of God! There is a high piority need for us to look to the inward appearance as well as the outward.
Does he love the Lord? If he atleast know God and loves him everything else can be worked out. If he does not know the Lord You should not care how good he looks!
How can I see beyond appearances?
Matthew 7:16-17, 20
You can identify (false Prophets) by their fruit, that is by the eay they act...a good tree produces good fruit, and a bad tree produces bad fruit....Yes, just as you can identify a tree by it's fruit so you can identify people by their actions.
Do not believe everyone who claims to speak by the spirit. You must test them to see if the spirit they have comes from God.
Is there any value to maintaining a good appearance?
Ecclesiates 9:7-8, 11:9-10, 12:13
Eat your food with joy, and drink your wine with a happy heart, for God approves of this! Wear fine clothes, with a splash of cologne!...But remember that you must give an account to God for everything that you do. SO refuse to worry, and keep your body healthy...Fear God and obey his commands, for this is everyone's duty
When you fast, comb your hair and wash your face.
1 Corinthians 6:19-20
Don't you realize tht your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit. who lives in you and was given to you by God? you do not belong to yourself, for God bought you with a high price. So you must honor God with your body.
My sister in Christ don't be obsessed with you physical appearance but neither should you ignore it. How you present yourself is in part a reflection of who you are. It play a role in how you interact with others. There are things about my body that I don't not love but I know the God who created me Loves it and that his spirit lives there in spite of some physical dislikes. I like to look nice wear makeup and smell good and I know my Husband loves it also but it is not my main focus because even when I am not looking my best he looks at me the same and loves me the same becaue It's what's on the inside that caught his eye also. God loved us not because our appearance but the because of the spirit he gave us, that he created us in his image.
